There are quite a few reasons you might be wondering how to regain admin access to your Facebook page. Perhaps a former admin left and locked you out, someone forgot a password, or the email address attached to the admin is no longer valid. Sometimes, you don’t know what happened, but you just know that you don’t have access to the Meta assets you need. You quickly need to learn how to recover a Facebook page admin account.

Don’t panic!

Regaining control of your Facebook page or Business Manager is possible, and this guide will walk you through the steps to reclaim your admin rights. Whether you've lost access due to a hacked account, removal by another admin, or a forgotten password, we'll cover all the essential steps to help you recover.

Common Scenarios for Losing Admin Access

Losing admin access to a Facebook page can happen for a variety of reasons, and it can be frustrating when you're suddenly locked out of managing your business’s online presence.  Below are some common scenarios that could result in lost access.

  1. You Removed Yourself as Admin: Accidentally removing yourself from a page as an admin is more common than you’d think. If you're the sole admin, regaining access becomes more complex.

  2. Account Hack: If your account or another admin’s account was hacked, the hacker might have removed your access.

  3. Lost Admin After Employee Departure: Perhaps a former employee or agency held the admin role, and you no longer have contact with them.

Steps to Recover Facebook Admin Access

  1. Use Facebook Business Settings to Restore Admin Access
This method works if you're still connected to the page or Business Manager:
    • Go to Facebook Business Settings and log in with your account.
    • Select Accounts > Pages from the left menu.
    • Find the page you want to regain admin access to, select it, and click Add People.
    • Search for your name or account and assign yourself as Admin.

  2. Submitting a Dispute to Facebook Support
If you can't regain access through Business Settings, you can submit a dispute:
    • Prepare Documentation: You’ll need a signed statement, government-issued ID, business documents and payment records for any ad accounts. The statement should explain your relationship to the business and why you need admin access. We provide detailed steps for this below.
    • Submit a Support Request: Visit the Facebook Business Help page. Choose your page or Business Manager account, enter the required details and attach your documents.

Note: Facebook may take up to 24 hours to review your request, though responses can come sooner.
  3. Recovering a Hacked Facebook Account
If your account or another admin's account was hacked, immediate action is necessary:
    • Visit Facebook’s hacked account page.
    • Follow the instructions to report the hack and secure your account. Once secured, you can work on recovering admin access to the page.

  4. Recovering a Forgotten Password
If your issue is simply a forgotten password:
    • Navigate to the Forgot Password link on Facebook’s login page.
    • Enter the email or phone number associated with the account to receive a reset link.
